Cultural Capital In Our School

Cultural capital is defined as the accumulation of knowledge, behaviours, and skills that a student can draw upon and which demonstrates their cultural awareness, knowledge and competence; it is one of the key ingredients a student will draw upon to be successful in society, their career and the world of work.

 

Our school recognises that there are six key areas of development that are interrelated and cumulatively contribute to the sum of a pupil’s cultural capital:

  • Personal Development

    • Careers and Information, advice and guidance provision – careers week undertaken
    • Personal Finance Education – Year 6 mini enterprise, charity weeks and fundraising including budget ideas
    • Employability skills
    • Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum
    • Watching documentaries/news reports
    • Transition support and induction
    • Work to develop confidence e.g. public speaking (Junior Speaks) 
    • Activities focused on building self-esteem
    • Mental Health & well-being provision - personalised learning opportunities
  • Social Development

    • PHSE curriculum
    • Charity work and House fundraising activities
    • Student Voice – Pupil Parliament
    • Nurture Group Access
    • Healthy Schools’ Accreditation – to be developed
